Abstract

A cardiac arrest must be quickly identified, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation initiated, activating in-hospital or out-of-hospital protocols. Once return of spontaneous circulation is achieved, post-cardiorespiratory arrest care begins. These should be focused on finding the etiology of the cardiac arrest in order to treat it, adequate monitoring, try to maintain homeostasis looking forward to appeasing the post-cardiac arrest syndrome that the patient is suffering and perform adequate prognosis. Anaesthesiology face cardiorespiratory arrests mainly within the operating room, recovery room, emergency room and in the intensive care unit. Many times, there is no immediate access to an intensive care unit bed, or referral to centers with access to coronary angiography and/or other procedures is required, which implies the management of these patients for variable times. For this reason, appeared the initiative to review the guidelines of the American Heart Association 2020 and European Resuscitation Council and European Society of Intensive Care Medicine guidelines 2021 for post-cardiorespiratory arrest care.
